Students from Thomas Starr King Middle School in Los Angeles, visit Farm King as part of various classes as well as part of an after school enrichment program. While at the garden, students participate in all aspects of garden life from planting to harvesting to cooking and eating. In addition, students use the garden as an outdoor classroom to study science, nutrition, art and other disciplines. Volunteers help plan and run garden activities including cooking, harvesting, planting, garden science, garden art, blog writing, etc. Most volunteers are needed from 11:15-4:15 on Tuesdays. However there are opportunities to help at other times as well including grant writing and lesson planning.
